STANLEY PARK ECOLOGY SOCIETY

Stanley Park Ecology (SPE) has been protecting urban wildlife and habitat in Vancouver's Stanley Park since 1988. Through hands-on stewardship, ecological restoration, and species and ecosystem monitoring, we work to support biodiversity in one of Canada's most visited urban parks, engaging community volunteers directly in habitat restoration and citizen science. Our applied research and stewardship includes invasive species removal, engaging volunteers annually to clear species that crowd out native habitat, alongside native plant restoration and long-term monitoring of Pacific great blue herons, bats, and bird populations, among others.

Education is core to our mission. SPE operates Vancouver's only ecology centre, the Stanley Park Nature House, and delivers school programs, camps, and public programming that connect people of all ages with the forest, wetland, and intertidal ecosystems of Stanley Park. Our curriculum-linked school programs are tailored to BC standards and designed with attention to access, reaching students, families, and visitors from across Metro Vancouver and beyond. Our programs offer hands-on, experiential learning in nature for children and families alike.

Each year, SPE connects more than 30,000 people with nature through this combination of stewardship, research, and education, building the next generation of environmental stewards and community connection to Stanley Park's ecosystems.
