RICK HANSEN FOUNDATION

In 1985, Rick Hansen set out on the Man In Motion World Tour - a 26-month, 40,000 kilometre journey through 34 countries that challenged perceptions of disability and inspired a movement for accessible and inclusive change through the creation of the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) .

The RHF brings together people, organizations, governments, businesses, researchers, and communities to advance accessibility through leadership, collaboration, innovation, education, research, and community action.

RHF works to remove barriers and create a more accessible and inclusive world. Our work focuses on:

Driving systems change so accessibility and inclusion are embedded from the start;

Advancing accessibility in the places where people live, work, learn, and play;

Bringing together lived experience, research, industry, government, and community to develop practical solutions;

Creating, more accessible spaces through innovative programs and initiatives;

Supporting research and innovation that improve quality of life for people with disabilities; and

Inspiring future generations of accessibility leaders.

Yet the work is far from finished.

Today, 1 in 4 Canadians has a disability, and that number is expected to grow as our population ages. Despite significant progress, barriers continue to limit access, independence, opportunity, and belonging for millions of people. Disability is part of the full spectrum of human diversity and can affect anyone.

As we mark the 40th anniversary of Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour, we’re building on this legacy to accelerate action and drive transformational solutions across Canada.
